Completion of 120 hours of credit with an overall grade point average of at least 2.0, as well as a 2.0 grade point average in the student’s major is required. Transfer students must complete 60 semester hours of credit at Hiram College. To gain breadth in the liberal arts, students are required to select at least two courses from each of the four divisions: fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Students must also complete two interdisciplinary courses and the College’s writing requirement. A student’s major satisfies the distribution requirement for the division in which the major’s department is listed.Students will usually declare a major after exploring the opportunities available through the Weekend College. This decision is most influenced by professional interests and a genuine enjoyment of the prescribed coursework in a particular major. Hiram's small classes foster a mentoring relationship between professor and student which helps students make decisions about appropriate majors. In addition to faculty advisors, the Weekend College staff and the Hiram College Career Center are wonderful resources to assist with choosing a major. Most majors require the student to take a miniumum of 40 semester hours within the department along with correlative course requirements in related areas. Generally about one-third of a student's coursework is devoted to the major.
