I-20 Amount
The U.S. immigration Form I-20 AB (certificate of eligibility) is issued to a student by the school the student plans to attend. At Hiram College, this form is issued after the student has been accepted and paid a $200 enrollment deposit.
The Form I-20 is one of the required documents in the visa process. It permits a student to apply for an F-1 student visa from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. With an F-1 Visa, a student may enter the U.S. for full-time enrollment in college studies.
As a part of the visa application process, the U.S. immigration service requires that colleges specify an approximate total cost of attendance that a student will incur during a typical academic year. This amount is listed on the I-20 and the College and the U.S. immigration service requires documentation from the student showing the source of all funds being used to meet the I-20 figure.
At Hiram College, the I-20 figure for academic year 2007 - 2008 totals $35,405. This amount includes all tuition, fees, room, board, orientation, health insurance, and $1500 for books and personal expenses. It does not include expenses for vacation periods or travel to and from the U.S.
The funds each student must document depend upon the amount of any assistance awarded by the College. A student receiving the maximum scholarship would still need to demonstrate funds of at least $14,000 - $15,000 in personal, family, or other resources (money outside of Hiram College) to cover expenses.
Summer 2007
International students may remain at Hiram in campus housing over the summer for convenience, study, and/or campus-based employment.
