Exchange Students and Foreign Language Teaching Assistants
Thank you for your interest in joining Hiram College as an exchange student or a foreign language teaching assistant (FLTA).

- Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey

Hiram also welcomes exchange candidates from the Institute for International Education (IIE).
FLTA's are chosen annually by the foreign language department and join Hiram College for one academic year.
Exchange students and foreign language teaching assistants must follow the Transfer Candidate application instructions on the Hiram web site (scroll down the page to Transfer Candidate). The application deadline for the fall semester intake is April 15; for spring semester intake, September 15.

Additional Requirements
If the sponsoring exchange agency/program does not issue a Certificate of Eligibility, an admitted student must have a Form I-20-Certificate of Eligibility from Hiram College to apply for an F-1 Student visa. In addition to Transfer Candidate Admission requirements, Hiram must receive the following documents before issuing the Form I-20:
- A clear photocopy of the biographical pages of your passport (name, date of birth, expiration date, passport number)
- A completed International Student Profile
- A completed Certificate of Finances form. Please read the instructions for completing the Certificate of Finances.
- Supporting financial documentation (for example: an official bank statement) showing sufficient financial resources to fund your stay at Hiram College. The amount of financial resources you must document will be determined by the details of the exchange agreement with the partner school or the conditions of the FLTA contract.
After all materials are received, Hiram College will send the Form I-20 by courier. The courier packet includes:
- Letter of Acceptance to the Exchange Program or a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Contract
- Instructions for paying the $100 non-refundable housing deposit (not applicable to FLTAs).
- A Form I-20-Certificate of Eligibility and visa application instructions.
- Original financial documentation which is required for the visa interview.
As soon as possible after the visa is issued, students should make travel and pre-departure plans and arrange for arrival on campus.8
Please keep us informed of your progress and contact us with any questions you may have. We look forward to your correspondence!
Sincerely,
