HIRAM'S FIRST FAIR TRADE
Tremendous Impact: Just and Sustainable
The Olive Branch Fair Trade store at Hiram College is a student coordinated social entrepreneurship program which began in 2008. The store supports sweatshop-free, eco-friendly, and fair trade products. Fair trade is a just alternative to mainstream production that pays a living wage, ensures healthy and safe working conditions, and promotes environmental sustainability predominantly in the Global South (Africa, Asia and Latin America). The Olive Branch Fair Trade program supports the working poor and the environment by educating consumers and selling fair trade and sustainably made products from across the globe.
While we no longer have regular stor hours, the program now has annual outreach efforts on Hiram’s campus and to area Churches and community organizations. The program is housed out of the Office of Civic Engagement located on the ground floor of the Kennedy Center. The program offers fair trade and union made fashion for women, men and children, accessories, home décor, handcrafts and body products. Items are discounted for Hiram students to make them more financially accessible. Come visit us at the Office of Civic Engagement and learn mor about Fair Trade and other ways you can become engaged locally and globally here at Hiram College. |
