1. Which courses are for first year students who wish to explore new areas of interest, but have no clear intent to major in this area?
The minor is comprised of predominantly upper level courses. During the first year Economics 201 or Sociology 155 are appropriate courses.
2. What is the desirable course work a prospective major/minor should complete by the end of their first year and the end of their second year?
Minors: By the end of the first year the student would be advised to take Economics 201, or Sociology 155.
3. What is the minimum a prospective major/minor must do by the end of their first and second year?
Minors: By the end of the second year the student would be advised to complete the required classes: Sociology 236, Economics/Political Science 336, and an elective such as Economics 201.
4. How important is it for a student with some interest in majoring in your area to make contact with a member of your department?
A student interested in this minor should contact Thomas Pascarella, Professor of Economics and Management, or Mario Renzi, Professor of Sociology, during their first year.
5. What are the major pitfalls a student should avoid during their first year and how can an advisor help the student to avoid them?
Waiting until the Junior year to begin work on this minor. Frequently scheduling problems arise at this late date.
