"Someone Is Going to Come" starts Thursday

Tyst is pleased to present their third summer theater production, entitled "Someone is Going to Come" by Jon Fosse from July 21 - August 7.

The play centers around a couple who have purchased a house, far from other houses, far from everyone. A house where at last they can be alone together, alone with each other. But the woman is obsessed by a strange premonition: What if someone comes? And sure enough, someone does come: the man who sold them the house. An ordinary man... but his presence unleashes hidden jealousy and insecurity that threatens to shatter the couple's relationship.

Tyst, a Cleveland-based performing arts organization specializing in modern Scandinavian performances, is presenting "Someone is Going to Come" as part of a summer-long partnership with Hiram College.  The play is directed by David Vosburgh, who directed Henrik Ibsen's "Ghosts" as the opening play in the summer theater series.

Performances will be held in Bates Hall’s Hayden Auditorium on the Hiram College campus at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays through August 7. Ticket prices range between $15 and $20. To order, call 216-771-9118 for individual sales and 330-569-5900 for group sales.

Norwegian Jon Fosse (pictured, right) is a novelist, essayist, poet and author of children's books.  His play "Someone is Going to Come" premiered at Oslo's Norske Teatret in 1996.  That same year, for his play "The Name," Jon Fosse received the Ibsen Award, Norway's highest theatrical honour. His plays have been translated and performed throughout Europe and North America.  His theatrical writing is considered to be some of the finest on the Western stage.

Over 120 guests expected to be on campus Friday for Picnic on the Hill

About 40 high school sophomores and juniors and their parents will be on campus Friday, July 22, for Picnic on the Hill hosted by the Office of Admission. Picnics on the Hill, which began earlier this summer, provide high school students and their families an opportunity to learn about Hiram College through a series of conversations with admission staff, faculty, financial aid staff, and current students. Guests will tour campus and the Field Station and enjoy a picnic lunch on the Gerstacker Lawn.

Response to Picnics on the Hill has been incredible as families are getting an early start on their college selection process by visiting college campuses during the summertime. Over 100 guests have been to campus for the Picnics offered earlier this summer.

This summer’s final Picnic on the Hill is Friday, August 5, 2005. Visit the web site for more information.
