Convocation to explore insanity plea as legal defense

At a time when the word “insane” is no longer used in the psychiatric field, Dr. Phillip Resnick has evaluated the sanity of dozens of criminals. He has testified as an expert witness regarding the mental state of defendants for a number of high-profile jury trials, including the trials of Jeffrey Dahlmer, the Unabomber, Andrea Yates, and Susan Smith.

On Tuesday, April 3, Resnick will deliver a convocation at Hiram College. The topic of his talk is, “The Andrea Yates Case: Insanity on Trial.” The convocation will begin at noon in the Kennedy Center Ballroom.

Dr. Resnick is a professor of psychiatry, director of the forensic psychiatry division, and adjunct professor of law at Case Western Reserve University. His visit to campus is part of the annual Margaret Clark Convocation at Hiram College.

This convocation is coordinated by the Center for Literature, Medicine, and the Biomedical Humanities and is funded by a grant from  the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation.

See the Diana exhibit on the cheap at the Western Reserve Historical Society

Every Wednesday is college ID day at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland’s University Circle. Students can explore the society’s newest exhibit, “Diana, a Celebration,” focusing on the life and work of Princess Diana. The exhibit features a collection of over 150 of Diana’s personal objects directly from the Althorp Estate in England, her royal wedding gown, 28 designer dresses, family heirlooms, personal mementos and home movies. The Western Reserve Historical Society serves as the final location for this exhibit before Diana’s belongings return to England.

All students presenting valid student IDs at the door get admission into the Princess Diana exhibit for the student price of $10. This is a special savings of $10, half the price of regular adult admission.

The Western Reserve Historical Society is the largest privately supported regional historical society in the nation. Founded in 1867, the society’s mission is to preserve and present the history of all of the people of Northeast Ohio.

The WRHS is located at 10825 East Boulevard in Cleveland. The Princess Diana exhibit is open Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For more information, call the Western Reserve Historical Society at 216.721.5722 or log on to www.wrhs.org.
