After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology, Dr. Kleiner earned a Ph.D. in nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. She is a certified nutritionist and in 1988 was appointed by Duke University as administrative director of the Sarah W. Stedman Center for Nutritional Studies, a post she held until 1990. Currently, she lives on Mercer Island, Washington, with her husband and two daughters.
The Good Mood Diet will be available for purchase at the convocation. Cost of the hardcover publication is $23.99.

In commemoration of the national holiday honoring Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., and the American civil rights movement, Hiram
College will host two major events.
On Thursday, January 11, Ms. Joan Southgate, a nationally renowned civil rights
activist, will speak to the campus community at 7

On Thursday, Ms. Southgate will reflect on her experiences from this remarkable journey. Ms. Southgate, who has been to Hiram in the past and is fond of this community, looks forward to engaging with students about the issue of individual activism. Learn more about her at www.intheirpath.org.

women’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA)
NSCAA/Adidas Team
Academic Award for the 2005–06 academic year. A total of 316

year.
The Hiram College Women’s Soccer Team achieved a 3.17 GPA for the academic year. The NSCAA considers this its most prestigious award for collegiate teams. This is the eighth straight year the women have earned this recognition.
“I could not be prouder of the efforts the players have put forth in the classroom,” said Women’s Soccer Coach Bob Dean. “The commitment by our student-athletes to the incredible academic rigor here at Hiram College is hard to measure. This is one way that they can see their efforts pay off.”
Dean stated that his players feel this is one of their most important team goals on an annual basis. “It is now a part of their core values,” he added. “It is first and foremost in their minds to earn a ninth-consecutive award and they are well on their way to doing that based on their grades from the first semester of this academic year.”
The Terrier Women’s Soccer Team posted a 3.23 team GPA for the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year.
