Elizabeth Juliano, WEC graduate and Board of Trustees member, named Entrepreneur of the Year for 2007
Elizabeth B. Juliano was named Entrepreneur of the Year in the service industry category by Ernst and Young for her company Litigation Management Inc., an organization that specializes in coordinating medical data for litigation.
In 1984, Juliano started LMI with a $10,000 line of credit from her uncle. Having worked as a medical secretary at Cleveland Clinic and in a local law firm, Juliano had a unique knowledge and perspective of medical litigation. Noticing the difficulty lawyers were having coordinating and analyzing all the medical data necessary to successfully defend clients in medical litigation cases, Juliano decided to capitalize on her special knowledge and formed LMI.
Juliano's first big client was the Dow Corning company in the early 1990s. It was difficult for Juliano to get the attention of the Dow lawyers, but her perseverance paid off as she presented them with a radio-type advertisement about her unique services that she recorded in a friend's sound studio.
Initially, Juliano was the sole proprietor and only employee of LMI. Today LMI has 600 employees, with 300 of them working remotely from computers throughout the United States. LMI specializes in deciphering and coordinating medical records delivering customized products for some of the world's largest cases.

Janet Pope and Donald Fleming edit new book on medieval history
A collection of essays written by prominent scholars in medieval history and edited by Hiram College Associate Professor of History Janet Pope and Visiting Assistant Professor of History Donald Fleming has been published by Boydell Press.
Titled Henry I and the Anglo-Norman World: Studies in Memory of C. Warren Hollister, the book, according to Pope, "contains essays that build upon [Hollister's] work in royal biography, political history more generally (especially church-state relations), administrative history, and the social history of the nobility."
Hollister worked on a biography of English king Henry I for most of his scholarly life but it remained unpublished at Hollister's death in 1997. When it was published in 2001, several of Hollister's former students, including Fleming, organized sessions at the 38th International Medieval Congress in 2003 to address next steps in the study of the king and his reign. (Both Fleming and Pope are products of Hollister’s doctoral program at the University of California, Santa Barbara.)
The Haskins Society Journal was interested in the results of the sessions and that proved to be the impetus for the book, Pope explained. The book also includes papers from similar sessions held in 2002 at the Institute of Historical Research in London.
“The rest were solicited from Hollister’s students,” Pope said. “Most of the essays in the volume are by Hollister’s students but several are by his colleagues in the field of Anglo-Norman history.”
Fleming and Pope divided the articles for editing and wrote the introduction together. Fleming solicited the manuscripts and arranged for peer review.
Assistant Professor of Art Christopher Ryan has show at Canton museum

Assistant Professor of Art Christopher Ryan will show a collection of paintings at the Canton Museum of Art this fall in the Director’s Choice Exhibition: the Art of Christopher Ryan, Anthony Schepis & Julian Stanczak. The show will open with a public reception on Thursday, September 6, and will run until October 29. M. J. Albacete, director of the Canton Museum of Art, selected these artists “because each represent an aspect of contemporary art which places them in a prominent role on the Ohio scene. Their respective styles will provide a fascinating contrast of artistic approaches…” More information can be found at www.cantonart.org.
Erin Hoskins, Student Ambassador president, spent her summer in China for Asian Outreach International
Erin Hoskins spent her summer in Hong Kong teaching English to Chinese youth. She was assigned the youngest group of students who know little to no English. Erin found her classes very rewarding and was grateful for the experience to enhance her teaching career.
When she was not teaching, Erin worked for Asian Outreach International three days per week. This organization is a mission trying to spread Christianity throughout Asia. Erin assisted Asian Outreach by doing research and preparing for its upcoming leadership conference.
A $2 million fire works display was part of the Chinese July 2 celebration in Hong Kong in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the colony's handover from British rule. Being so close to our 4th of July, Erin said felt she was celebrating the freedom of both countries simultaneously.
