Born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois, Scott earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Dominican University in River Forest. He worked as a creative director for Chicago-based advertising agencies before co-founding his own agency, EDM, in 1993.
In 2006, Scott sold his interest in EDM and changed his focus to marketing and communication in higher education. He worked for Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago), Ashland University (Ashland, Ohio), Resurrection University (Chicago), and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) before accepting the position at Hiram College.
Scott and his wife, Susan (White), have two grown children, Tim and Lauren, and one grandchild, Isabella.
