The architect Louis Kahn was quoted to say, "Know your materials". Canvas is the traditional material of the painter. Steel, aluminum and stone, are all sculpture materials. I have rescued and recycled these materials to create assemblages, which I paint on using the natural surfaces as a crucial part of the imagery. The landscape representations emerge as a portrayal of the effects of man on nature as well as my profound reverence for nature. I often convey environmental image statements about the loss of our earth’s old growth forests at the hands of those who disrespect this great life force for profit.
