Residence Hall Safety & Security Measures
In 2006, the residence halls moved away from exterior keys for doors and a swipe card access system was installed. Resident students use their college issued identification card to gain access to their residence hall; traditional metal keys continue to be issued for room access.
Entrances to the Residence Halls are locked 24 hours a day; however, residents may use their ID card to gain entrance into their residence hall. Non-resident students should utilize the exterior phones to contact the guests they are visiting.
Exterior doors are not to be propped at any time, for any reason. Propped doors jeopardize the safety and possessions of all students. Students should also lock their room doors at all times. Hiram College does not insure the property of residents, so students are encouraged to carry personal insurance on their belongings. Many homeowners’ policies will cover such belongings; students and families are encouraged to check their policies.
If you require assistance during normal business hours, you may contact Campus Safety at (330) 569-5188 or stop by the office located on the 2nd floor of the Kennedy Center.
If you require assistance during the evening or weekend, in addition to Resident Assistants and a Resident Director, Campus Safety Officers are on duty evenings and weekends. The Campus Safety Officer can be reached by dialing (330) 469-4119. To reach the Hiram Police and Emergency Services directly, you can call x.5414 from any campus phone or (330) 569-5414 from a non-campus phone; this phone number is for police, fire, and EMS emergencies only. It is strongly advised that you contact Campus Safety, a Resident Assistant, or a Resident Director for issues occurring on campus.
Note: There is no 911 service in Hiram; if you dial 911 your call will go to the state highway patrol. While assistance will still be received, dialing (330) 469-4119 or x.5414 directly will result in a more immediate emergency response.
