Student Life Staff     

Vice President & Dean of Students

To serve the president and collaborate with senior staff colleagues in accomplishing the mission of Hiram College; to oversee the budgets, programs, and functions of the student life division; to supervise the directors and heads of all divisional programs and functions; to determine priorities, goals, and objectives for all divisional programs and functions; to serve on college committees as determined by the president of the college.

Associate Dean of Students / Director of Campus Safety

To report directly to the Vice President/Dean of Students; to supervise the Campus Safety Department;  to coordinate New Student Orientation, Transfer Student Orientation;  to chair the Family Advisory Council; to teach two, one-credit Student Development classes; to act as a liaison to the Athletic Department.

Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residential, Commuter & Citizenship Education

To report directly to the Vice President & Dean of Students; to manage student housing assignments; to collaborate in the maintenance, furnishing, renovation, and construction of all student residential space; to oversee the staffing and training of all residential personnel; to teach students how to speak up for themselves, resolve conflicts, be accountable to each other, and develop a sense of community; to collaborate in making the residential environment a co-curricular laboratory for the achievement of the college's student learning outcomes; to supervise the commuter student services;  to supervise commuter student services; to supervise campus parking; to serve on college committees as determined by the vice president.

Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Ethnic Diversity Affairs

To report directly to the Vice President & Dean of Students; to support Hiram College in preparing all graduates for success in a culturally diverse global community; to provide focused attention on both the quality of life of minority students and issues directly affecting them; to  promote cultural diversity as a core academic value within the entire Hiram community through active involvement in committees, Admission Outreach initiatives, group training and development, special events and programs, advising, consultation, teaching, and presentations;  to develop, implement and evaluate programs that will result in increased minority retention and graduation, to provide information, direction, and community programs that will develop and/or increase awareness and respect for diversity, to establish and maintain an effective system for reporting acts of intolerance or incidents that breach the College's Statement on Diversity and identify trends that indicate patterns of intolerance, and to generate awareness of the cognitive, developmental, and vocational value of diversity.

 

Coordinator of Citizenship Education

To report directly to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residential, Commuter & Citizenship Education, to oversee the Community Council, to uphold and interpret the rights and responsibilities of all students through fair and consistent policy enforcement, to advise the RA committee responsible for Citizenship Education issues, to educate residents, staff and faculty on citizenship education, to serve as an on-campus liaison for Campus Safety and Hiram Village Police, and to serve on committees as determined by the Director. 

Coordinator of Campus Involvement

To report directly to the Assistant Dean of Students/Ethnic Diversity Affairs; to advise and serve as a resource for all student organizations and clubs;  to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff in developing an active community of co-curricular opportunities that promote growth and learning; to promote the development of diverse, educational, and entertaining programs that engage students, address issues important to students and uphold the mission of the college; to plan and coordinate the New Student Institute program; to coordinate the KULAS Trips program; to assist with the development of student leaders through experiential activities and training. 

Coordinator of International  Student Services

To report directly to the Assistant Dean of Students/Ethnic Diversity Affairs;  to advocate for internatoinal student needs on campus, to assist international students and scholars with orientation to campus life, transition to a new culture, and general culture shock issues, and to provide support in the areas of medical care, health insurance, study/tutoring needs, transportation, and immigration related matters.. Additionally, the Coordinator facilitates the Hiram College Friendly Family Program and general student placements with families for holiday celebrations.”


Director of Student Academic Services

To report directly to the Vice President/Dean of Students; to improve a student's academic and personal achievements; to provide a structured outreach to students who are not achieving their full academic potential;  to contact students who are underachieving, develop a rapport with them and evaluate the personal, academic, and social factors that may be negatively influencing their academic performance, as well as provide effective advising, and/or specific academic services. 

Director of Career Center

To report directly to the Vice President/Dean of Students; to assist all Hiram College students with their career development by providing counseling, educational programs, and resources to help them make satisfying career choices from a broad range of liberal arts careers; to work with the faculty, staff, alumni and employers; to develop relationships and plan events; to create and maintain strong internship and employment programs; to coordinate and administer community service programs and oversee the student coordinators and serves as a resource for faculty, staff and students to engage in volunteer opportunities throughout the surrounding communities. 

Assistant Director of Career Center

To report directly to the Director of the Career Center; to assist all Hiram College students with career development by providing counseling, educational programs, internship resources; to work with the faculty, staff, alumni and employers; to develop relationships and plan events; to create and maintain strong internship and employment programs; to manage the Sophomore Program. 

Director of Julia Church Health Center

To report directly to the Vice President/Dean of Students; to deliver and oversee patient care of college students; to develop policies and procedures in collaboration with the college physician and nursing staff; supervises Julia Church Health Center and on-call nursing staff; oversees active and passive health and wellness education of the student body; Campus Blood borne Pathogen Trainer; Travel clinic coordinator; Community health liaison.

Director of Counseling Services

To report directly to the Vice President/Dean of Students; to provide short-term counseling/therapy to students enrolled in traditional college; to assist in referring students to community mental health resources as needed or desired; to provide educational resources for students, faculty & staff; to review student requests for retroactive medical withdrawals from coursework;  to collaborate with other staff members & departments on projects & events;  to serve on college committees as assigned/elected/Disability Services – to review accommodation documentation & approve appropriate academic accommodations;  to prepare & send letters of accommodation to faculty and coaches;  to seek and order books on tape;  to assist students as needed;  to maintain contact with SAS in order to coordinate service needs and monitor progress.
