Hiram
College has more than 60 registered student clubs and organizations,
including academic societies, cultural groups, sports clubs, political
action and special interest groups. These clubs and organizations
provide students with endless opportunities to experience new
activities, ideas and beliefs, develop public speaking and leadership
skills, and to meet and interact with other students, faculty, staff
and community members who share a similar interest. If you are interested in a student organization not listed, contact the Office of Campus Involvement. We will help you get started! Organizations below are listed by categories and give you an idea of what we have to offer:

Academic
American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS)
The Hiram student chapter of the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) is an organization dedicated to advancing research and education in the biological sciences. The group not only puts you in contact with other Hiram biology students for studying, research opportunities and internship questions, but also fosters growth through community outreach.
Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA)
Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA) is an affiliate of the National Middle School Association. It is designed to promote and support the professional development of middle level teacher candidates. Some activates are social, while others are designed to enhance professional development to provide middle level teacher candidates with a strong network of peers and the support of the national association to promote middle level education.
Hiram College Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
The Hiram College undergraduate chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery is a club for technology enthusiasts and students with interest in computer science. Its activities include participation in the ACM Programming Contest, the regular sponsorship if computer games playable over Hiram's Local Area Network (LAN) and the hosting of speakers of interest to the technology community.
Chemistry Club
Chemistry club is a group for anyone with interest and respect for the field of chemistry, regardless of major. Activities include bringing speakers to campus, internship workshops for those interested in chemistry research, preparing for graduate school in the physical sciences and an annual mole day celebration every October 23. Everyone interested is encouraged to attend.
Education Club
The purpose of this organization is to promote the welfare and ongoing education of both children and adults, to coordinate and facilitate ongoing and one-time educational programs for Hiram Students, and to work cooperatively with other organizations on campus or at other colleges and universities to provide opportunities for conferences, speakers and community service in the area of education.
Fine Arts Guild
The Fine Arts Guild is a student run organization at Hiram College devoted to the promotion, understanding and enjoyment of the arts. It is open to all interested students regardless of major or previous level of knowledge or involvement in the arts. Over the years, the group has been involved in many activities including trips to museums and special exhibitions, bringing guest speakers to campus, showing films and planning the semi-annual art department weekend in New York. The level of funding and activity of the group is determined by the degree of participation and enthusiasm of its student members.
History Club
The History Club is open to all members of the Hiram community who enjoy history. Members meet regularly to watch historical movies and take field trips. The goals of the History Club include raising awareness of both the past and its influences on the present.
Investment Club
The Investment Club meets on a regular basis to manage a cash portfolio of approximately $50,000. Club members develop investment strategies and purchase and sell stocks as their strategies dictate. The Club is in competition throughout the country with other Investment Clubs. Additionally, the Club invites stockbrokers, money managers, investment bankers etc to speak to the club members on the happenings of the stock market and their career.
Medicus
Medicus is a group of students interested exploring the allied health field as a career and serves to promote the field of medicine in the Hiram community. It brings speakers to campus and sponsors trips to hospitals, medical schools and other programs in order to view first-hand the options associated with the health field.
Music Society
The Music Society is a group of students who love all types of music. Most of these students wish to teach music in schools or perform as a career. This club is open to all students at Hiram. Most members become registered in the State organization, the Ohio Music Educators Association and the National organization, the Music Educators National Conference. The Music Society takes an annual trip to the state conference for 3-4 days. Here they attend workshops, listen to various performances, hear world renowned speakers and shop the Great Music Exhibit.
Speech and Debate Club
Since its founding in 2008, the Hiram Speech and Debate Team is Hiram College’s premier competitive debating organization, bringing students to American Parliamentary, Speech Relations and other tournaments across the United States. We believe that the intent and purpose of the Hiram Speech and Debate Team is to develop and pursue excellence in public speaking, oration in the Hiram community, and to represent Hiram College in intercollegiate speech and parliamentary debate competitions. In addition, Hiram Speech and Debate Team seeks to sponsor, organize and run speech and parliamentary debate tournaments, public speaking events, demonstrations and community service projects in the best interests of public speaking. To these ends, we welcome members of the Hiram community from any class, any school (including graduate schools) and any debating background to join our organization following the completion of a simple "comp" process. We put a high premium on training, practice and commitment, but we strongly believe that unnecessary exclusion damages the potential of our organization. Spanish Club
The Spanish Club of Hiram College exists for all members of the community to express and explore their love and interest of the modern and ancient Hispanic worlds. Students get together approximately every three weeks to hold conversations in Spanish, sample Spanish cuisine, and watch Spanish movies. Each year the group participates in one or two major events, such as holding a First Friday in Bowler, participating in the International Forum, or organizing a trip to see a Spanish play. All students are welcome at each event and advanced Spanish knowledge and skills are not required as the club also exists to inform others about the multicultural world in which we live. Veticus
Veticus is a student-run club, advised by both faculty and a local veterinarian. Veticus' goal is to help students interested in veterinary medicine and other areas of animal health and welfare get involved with animal organizations and veterinary hospitals around the area. Veticus arranges and conducts trips to various shelters, rescue operations and veterinary clinics in order to broaden interest, understanding and awareness. Bi-monthly meetings are held in order to discuss current veterinary topics and share shadowing and other experiences with peers. Ultimately, Veticus aims to aid students in applying to veterinary schools, excelling in application interviews and in earning acceptance.

Musical
Chamber Orchestra
The Chamber Orchestra is primarily a string ensemble, incorporating winds and percussion on a limited basis. The ensemble rehearses twice weekly and performs one concert per semester. The orchestra performs diverse repertoire from all periods and styles.
College Choir
The Concert Choir is a choral ensemble for mixed voices, which performs both accompanied and unaccompanied music. This ensemble rehearses twice weekly during the twelve-week term and performs one concert on campus per semester, with occasional performances off-campus. Music of all styles, from Renaissance to Contemporary forms the repertoire of the choir.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is open to all Hiram students and may be taken for credit. It rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. and does not conflict with other college classes. It performs one concert each semester and plays for graduation at the end of the year. The repertoire consists of mature literature from numerous periods and styles. The Department of Music maintains an inventory of instruments available for student use in Concert Band, which includes oboes, bassoons, French horns, euphoniums, tubas and percussion equipment. The Concert Band provides students with an enjoyable and rewarding musical experience.
Jazz Ensemble
In addition to performing various styles of big band charts, individual solo opportunities exist and time is allocated for developing individual improvisational skills. The Jazz Ensemble provides students with an energetic and enjoyable musical experience. The Jazz Ensemble is open to all Hiram College students and may be taken for credit. It performs one concert per semester.
Madrigal Singers
The Hiram College Madrigal Singers is a select 16-member choral ensemble for mixed voices. Since 1969, this group has presented the annual Yuletide "Revels," which portray a festive holiday gathering during the Elizabethan Age. The group also performs vocal chamber music of all styles throughout the year. Auditions are held during the first week of classes in the fall semester.
Men's Chorus
The Men's Chorus is a college/community ensemble, mixing students, faculty and members of the community-at-large. The ensemble specializes in TTBB music, and rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 8:00-9:30 p.m. The chorus performs one concert each semester, plus an outdoor spring pops concert. Participation is not limited to men.
Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop
The Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop is open by audition to all members of the Hiram campus. The ensemble performs fully-staged short operatic works and scenes from full-length operas, giving students a wide range of performance opportunities. All performances are sung in English. Recent productions have included works by Mozart, Verdi, Menotti, Bernstein, Gay and Gilbert and Sullivan
Terrier Sound Marching Band
Terrier Sound, Hiram's completely student-led marching band, is the fastest growing organization on campus. Always within earshot, the band can be heard at Hiram's football games as well as at other events on campus. Terrier Sound rehearses twice a week during marching season. All members are required to attend Band Camp, which is held the week prior to the start of the fall semester. If you would like to join or request information, email Terriersound@hiram.edu.

Political/Activism
Hiram College Democrats Club
The Hiram College Democrats' Club provides a foothold into the political arena for students who have a passion for government as well as assisting capable candidates in their campaigns for local, state and national offices. We promote positive discussion and civil disagreement, progressive movements, middle class based economics and the rights and liberties that make the United States the land of the free.
Model UN
A Model United Nations (MUN) is a conference that simulates several functions of various committees of the United Nations. The primary goal of many MUNs is to engage participants in current global issues by raising their awareness through forums and discussions.
Hiram College Republican Club
The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the education and understanding of one of the United States of America's longest standing political philosophies - conservatism and the Republican party most of all. The meetings are open to any Hiram student interested in learning more about conservatism and the GOP. Active members in the Republican party will receive our support and information to guide them.
Students Against Social Injustice (SASI)
Students Against Social Injustice is a student run organization that works with a variety of social causes. The group participates in the School of Americas protests, to raising money for charities such as the Heifer InternationalProject. SASI also makes lobbying trips to Washington, D.C. each year to speak out on a variety of issues.

Student Senate
Student Senate is the representative student governing body of Hiram College. Senate acts as the liaison between the administration and the students. This relationship takes a variety of forms: participation in forums with faculty/staff and fellow students, working with Finance Committee to allocate student activity funds and solving problems to help their own student body. Student Senate also has the role of overseeing approval of new clubs seeking to belong to the Associated Student Organizations (A.S.O.), as well as the budgets of all A.S.O clubs and all Activities Fund requests. The Kennedy Center Programming Board acts as a subgroup of Student Senate and is responsible for planning Springfest and Homecoming each year.
Kennedy Center Programming Board (KCPB)
The Kennedy Center Programming Board (KCPB) is the campus activities programming board at Hiram College that provides a variety of educational, social, recreational and cultural programs. As a subgroup of Hiram College Student Senate, its members are dedicated to the college and work hard to present diverse activities for the whole campus community to enjoy. KCPB events are free for all traditional and weekend college students, and include large events such as Homecoming and Springfest. Their meetings are Monday nights at 7 p.m. in their Kennedy Center office. For more information on events, check out www.hiram.edu/kcpb.

Publications and Communications
The Advance
The Advance is a student-run newspaper serving the Hiram College community. It is produced by students biweekly twelve times a school year. The functions of The Advance are to inform and entertain the student body, faculty, staff and Hiram community. Staff and editors can be reached at advance@hiram.edu. Audrey Cunningham is the staff adviser.
The Hiram College Vision (formerly known as Spider Web)
The Hiram College Vision, Hiram's yearbook, is a small piece of Hiram's history, a permanent collection of photographs and memories that seek to preserve the traditions of the college throughout its pages. It serves as a medium of communication for its readers and exists to inform and entertain them about the school and community. Paid opportunities for taking photographs, designing pages and writing stories are available to students throughout the school year. All students are encouraged so submit photographs directly to the Editor(s)-in-Chief during the year. Photographs can be emailed to yearbook@hiram.edu.
WHRM
WHRM "The Worm" is funded by Hiram College Student Senate and gives members the opportunity to learn basic radio operation. Broadcast on the Hiram intranet, WHRM provides music from the station located in the Kennedy Center.

Religious
Disciple Student Fellowship (DSF)
Disciple Student Fellowship is a Christian student-run group affiliated with the Disciples of Christ Church, but is open to students of all denominations. Recognizing the founders of Hiram College, DSF tries to bridge the gap between the college and Hiram Christian Church by planning services, working with youth and encouraging inter-generational relationships. Its members seek opportunities to support global ministries. DSF traditionally meets Sunday nights for food, fun and fellowship.
Interfaith Council
The Interfaith Council is a group of students who work with the chaplain to organize, plan and implement programming in the Fisher All Faith Chapel and Meeting House. The group designs procedures for scheduling and managing the interfaith program and works on issues of shared space. It is broadly representative of the several traditions that share the facility. The Council currently has no elected officers, and is convened by the chaplain.
Newman Club
The Hiram College Newman Club is the Catholic organization on campus. Members attend meetings twice a month and different events are planned such as discussions, guest speakers, masses and other fun activities. The Newman Club is open to people of all denominations.
The Net
The Net is a Christian group at Hiram College affiliated with Campus Crusade for Christ which is well known around the country for their many Christian chapters at other colleges and universities. One goal of the Net is to bring students together to help them grow in and build their spiritual life while in college. The Net is also focused on helping those around us, whether through community service at the college or serving with local, regional and national organizations. The Net provides an inviting atmosphere that meets as a group every Thursday with music and guest speakers from the Hiram student body, faculty and fellow Pastors around the area. The Net provides an opportunity to learn more about God, meet new people and get involved every week while at Hiram College.

Special Interest/Service
Relay For Life
Relay For Life is the organization associated with putting on Hiram's Relay For Life event each spring. Affiliated with the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life is a 24-hour walk/run event that encourages participants to fight back against cancer. The group regularly holds meetings to plan the event.
African American Student Union (AASU)
AASU is a support and social group for students interested in the curricular and co-curricular issues, concerns and interests of Hiram's African-American community. Members participate in on and off campus programming, along with sponsoring the annual Kwanzaa Celebration. AASU meets in the Umoja Room, located on the ground level of the Quad.
B-Side Cafe
The B-side Cafe is a student operated, non-profit coffee shop serving the students of Hiram's campus Sunday through Thursday evenings during the school year in Whitcomb Hall. The B-Side provides a relaxed atmosphere for students to study, play games, listen to music and talk to friends. Each semester the B-side holds open mic night and a poetry slam. These events provide an opportunity for Hiram students to share their talents with the community.
Circle K
Hiram College Circle K, a collegiate community service organization sponsored by Kiwanis International, is concentrated in the areas of leadership and personal development. There are three key ideals Circle K is proud to uphold: service, fellowship and leadership. As an organization, we are committed to serving our campus and community, focusing much of our attention on helping children and families in need as well as other major not-for-profit organizations.
Free Information on Student Health (FISH)
F.I.S.H. (Free Information on Student Health) is a student group dedicated to educating their peers on various aspects of health and social issues. F.I.S.H. strives to provide students with accurate information so they can make better and more informed decisions regarding their personal health and behavior.
GAIA
Gaia is a club for students interested in women's issues and gender equality. Members participate in on-campus events to raise awareness as well as off-campus volunteer opportunities. Each year members either attend a performance of The Vagina Monologues or stage the play at Hiram.
Intercultural Forum
Intercultural
Forum works towards promoting understanding and awareness amongst the
culturally diverse students of Hiram. As one of the largest clubs on campus, we
organize some of the biggest annual events, including the International Dinner
and Talent Show. The dinner and show provide students with an opportunity to
interact with people from various backgrounds while showing casing their own unique culture.
Medieval Society
The Medieval Society explores both the historical period from 700-1500 CE, and
the fictional fantasy worlds inspired by this time period. Activities include
movie nights, readings, RPG gaming and trips to local medieval faires and
Renaissance festivals.
Presence and Respect for Youth Sexual Minorities (PRYSM)
PRYSM (acronym for Presence and Respect for Youth Sexual Minorities) represents the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Trans and Allied community on campus. They regularly do programming related to LGBT issues, including speakers and the annual Coming Out Day.
Stone Soup Vegetarian Coop
The Stone Soup Co-op is an alternate meal plan for vegetarians, vegans and those with special dietary needs. Meat-eaters are welcome as well, though no meat is allowed in the co-op. Members are responsible for the entire operation including cooking and cleaning up from meals and ordering the food. The co-op is located near Fenton lounge in Booth and Centennial Hall.
Student Environmental Action Committee (SEAC)
The Student Environmental Action Committee is a group dedicated to preserving the environment on both local and global levels. This group is very open to ideas from members; past activities have included various recycling projects, lobbying, trips to environmental conferences, local cleanup projects and guest speakers.
Students Lyrical Artistic Movement (SLAM)
Students Lyrical Artistic Movement is a Slam poetry club that focuses on providing students opportunities to share and work on performance poetry. We participate in poetry events, see shows featuring Slam poets and bring Slam poets to campus as often as possible. SLAM also sponsors Lyrical Lounge programs once a month on Friday evenings in the Kennedy Center Main Lounge.
Theatre Guild
Among many activities such as Masquerades, NOIC (Northeastern Ohio Improv Competition) and play excursions, the Theatre Guild is most well-known for its Blitz Theatre - a 24-hour whirlwind of theatrical activity and performance. Our basic goal is to make theatre a part of the Hiram community as well as larger circles of people.

Sports and Recreation
Bowling Club
Bowling club is a club open to all levels of skill in bowling. We do a variety of events including midnight bowling and daytime bowling. We also have friendly tournaments within the club throughout the year.
Dance Team
The Hiram College Dance Team is a student run organization that performs at athletic events throughout the year. They also hold an annual workshop for young dancers in the community during spring semester.
High Steppers
This performance dance group incorporates modern, contemporary and creative dance. The Hiram High Steppers usually offer performances at half-time of intercollegiate sports contests.
Men's Rugby
The rough and tumble action of Rugby is making its comeback at Hiram College. The team is growing stronger every year, and is part of the Ohio Rugby Union, which means we play other division III teams throughout the year. We have a split season, offering playtime both in the fall and spring, with a couple of special events in the winter. Outdoors Club
The Outdoors Club gives students the opportunity to satisfy the outdoors-recreation thirst that many have. Some of the clubs activities include camping, skiing in Vermont and hiking in the outdoors of the Southern United States. This club is open to everyone.
Scuba Club
The Scuba Club is for students interested in scuba diving and/or snorkeling. We organize a week-long diving trip for every spring break. Anyone is welcome in Scuba club, whether you like diving, snorkeling or just vacationing by the water.
Ski and Snowboard Club
This club is for skiers and snowboarders alike. We try to get out most weekends to a local resort such as Peek 'n Peak or Brandywine. We also do longer trips such as a weekend on the slopes at Holiday Valley or a week in Vermont.
Water Polo
Hiram College Water Polo is a club team that began in 2005. Members come together throughout the year to play water polo at the Coleman Center. While learning the basics, they plan to focus on playing for fun.
Women's Rugby
The Women's Rugby Team is a group of girls who get together, laugh, practice, laugh some more, practice, and then go to dinner together and laugh some more. They play against a wide variety of teams across Ohio and enjoy meeting other "ruggers" at the Rugby parties that follow the games.
