Reception for First Year African-American Students
When you arrive on campus, you will be warmly greeted by a variety of energetic and friendly faces. In fact, you should not be surprised if approached by members of the faculty, staff, or student leaders who may even already know your name!
Throughout the summer, the entire campus, including volunteers and staff in The Office of Ethnic Diversity Affairs, have been preparing for what is commonly referred to as "arrival day" or "institute." A reception has been organized to extend to our minority students greetings that are certainly in line with the enthusiasm, hustle, and bustle of the campus.
The main purpose of the one-hour program is simply to convey to students and their families that "we’re glad that you’re here!" As well, this is an excellent opportunity for students and their families to make important connections with members of the Hiram community including faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni. Invitations, to students and their families, are extended during the summer prior to arrival day.
