THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH ANNOUNCES TWO POETRY CONTESTS
THE VACHEL LINDSAY POETRY PRIZE
First Place : $150
Second Place $ 100
Third Place $50
Description
Poetry in any form on any subject is eligible. The prize is given to the best poem or the
best group of two or three poems.
THE HALE CHATFIELD POETRY PRIZE
First Place : $150
Second Place : $100
Third Place $50
Description
The prize is given to the best free verse poem.
RULES
- Submit up to three poems per contest (you may enter both).
- Chatfield entries are ineligible for the Lindsay Prize.
- Poems must be typed on one side of conventional typing paper using a conventional font.
- Submit a cover sheet with your name, telephone number and titles of poems you are entering in each contest.
- In the upper right corner of each poem, indicate the name of the contest you are entering. Do not put your name on the poems.
- Poems will not be returned.
- Winners will be announced at the English Dept. Party on May 10, 2004 .
- Submit poems and cover sheet in one manila envelope to Professor Willard Greenwood by noon on April 9, 2002 .
- Grace Butcher will judge both contests. She has authored several books of poetry, and her poems have appeared in Poetry and other prominent journals. She is also a Hiram alumna.
