Writing Resources
The Writing Center has a rich collection of resources, many of which can be borrowed for short periods of time:
- Literature about graduate programs in creative and professional writing.
- Magazines about writing and publishing (e.g., Writer’s Digest, Ohio Writer, Poets and Writers, Writer’s Chronicle)
- Books and reference books about writing (e.g., Writer’s Market, Travel Writer’s Market, American Heritage Dictionary, atlases, handbooks, and visual dictionaries)
- The best magazines and journals that feature new fiction, poetry, and nonfiction (e.g. African American Review, Creative Nonfiction, DoubleTake, Georgia Review, Grand Tour, Mississippi Review, Bellingham Review, Mid-Atlantic Review, North American Review, the Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, Missouri Review, and all AWP and NCTE publications)
- Materials about Writing Across the Curriculum, including numerous books on writing that are discipline-specific
- Postings about writing contests—local, regional, and national
- Books on current writing theory (by authors such as Cixous, Kristeva, Lindemann, Foucault, Said, Morrison, and others)
- Information about Hiram College’s Festival of Regional Writers and Building Community Through the Arts programs
- Publications by Hiram College faculty
- Books signed by visiting writers
- Copies of portfolios prepared by Minors in Writing in recent years, as well as copies of ECC prize-winning manuscripts
- Applications for the Minor in writing and English major with an emphasis in creative writing
- Free copies of the Hiram College Style Manual, the Nonsexist Use of Language brochure, the Hiram Literary Arts Magazine, and other in-house publications
