Commencement Day Schedule

The following events take place on May 16, 2015, Commencement Day:

8:30 a.m. Nursing Ceremony for graduating nursing students (Hiram Christian Church)

10:00 a.m. Baccalaureate, Speaker: Reverend Roger McKinney, Hiram Christian Church pastor (Hiram Christian Church)

11:00 a.m. -1:15 p.m. Brunch Reception (HC Dining Hall)

11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Family Activities & Book Store Open House (Kennedy Center)

12:30 p.m. Class Picture (Bates Hall steps)

1:15 p.m. Student Line up (Fleming Field House***)

2:00 p.m. Commencement - Speaker: Tony Aretz, Ph.D., president of Mount Saint Joseph University, Cincinnati, Ohio (Martin Field House***, simulcast location Price Gym, & live video streaming at

***NOTE: Based upon the threat of rain and thunderstorms as of Wednesday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m., the decision has been made to move Commencement to the indoor contingency site of Paul Martin Field House.  This forces the student line up location to move to Fleming Field House.  After the ceremony ends, please wait until the graduates have recessed out of Martin Field House.  Families should plan to meet up with graduating students informally on the outside track weather permitting.

Any change in location will be communicated on-line at or, and on the information line at 330-569-5959, and to student, faculty & staff through email.

Please note that indoor contingency tickets are required with this move indoors.  All graduates should have already registered for these contingency indoor tickets by the deadline of May 1.  The ticket packets are available for students and faculty/staff to pick up at the Kennedy Center Welcome Desk which is open today 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday 10 a.m. to noon. The graduating students and faculty that are in the procession do NOT need a ticket of course.  Please refer to Registration & Tickets for details.

Nursing Ceremony

The Department of Nursing will host a ceremonial pinning for the BSN Class of 2015 on Saturday, May 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the Hiram Christian Church, 6868 Wakefield Road, Hiram, Ohio. All guests are welcome.


The religious service for the graduating class and their guests will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Hiram Christian Church, 6868 Wakefield Road, Hiram, Ohio. This year's key note speaker is Reverend Roger McKinney, Hiram Christian Church pastor.  All guests are welcome to attend Baccalaureate.

Brunch reception

The brunch reception will be held with a start time of 11:00 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. in the Hiram College Dining Hall. Students and their guests are invited to attend and visit with faculty, staff, and friends prior to the Commencement ceremony. Tickets are required. Family Activities & Book Store Open House

Come join the fun activities before and after you attend the brunch.  Stop by the Book Store for Hiram College items that students will enjoy and have to reminisce about their days spent 'on the hill'.  More information coming about the activities.

Class Picture

All graduating students need to be at the Bates Hall steps by 12:30 p.m. to be a part of the class pictures.

Student Line up

All graduating students MUST be at Martin Field House no later than 1:15 p.m. for line up or risk not marching.  If commencement is moved indoors to Martin Field House, student line will be in Fleming Field House.

Commencement exercises

The Saturday, May 16 2:00 p.m. planned location for the commencement exercises is outdoors at Charles A. Henry Field with a contingency indoor location of Martin Field House.  See Weather/Emergency Contingency Plan for complete details regarding the contingency plan.  A live simulcast of the ceremony will also be shown in Price Gym.  The commencement address speaker is TBA soon.  Tickets are not required for the outdoor location of Charles A. Henry Field but contingency tickets are required if the ceremony is moved indoors to Martin Field House. Contingency tickets require advanced registration by May 1, 2015 through the Registration and Ticket process.

If the ceremony is outside, please come prepared with proper attire and head apparel depending upon temperature or an unexpected chance of precipitation.  Please be aware that umbrellas will not be permitted due to safety concerns and to prevent obstruction of anyone’s view.  The weather/emergency contingency plan can be found on this website.

Post-commencement gathering

The Commencement recessional will lead faculty, graduates, and their families to Martin Field House or alternate location TBA if the ceremony is moved indoors.
