Commencement Day Schedule
The following events take place on May 14, 2016, Commencement Day:
8:00 a.m. Phi Beta Kappa Induction Ceremony (Dix Dining Hall, Kennedy Center)
8:30 a.m. Nursing Ceremony for graduating nursing students (Hayden Auditorium, Bates Hall)
10 a.m. Baccalaureate, Speaker: Dr. Irwin W. Green, Pastor, Hiram Christian Church (Hiram Christian Church)
11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Brunch Reception (Dining Hall)
11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Family Activities and Bookstore Open House (Kennedy Center)
12:30 p.m. Class Picture (Bates Hall steps)
1:15 p.m. Student Line up (Fleming Field House)
2 p.m. Commencement - Featured Speaker: Journalist Jan Hopkins (Martin Field House, simulcast location Price Gym, and live video streaming at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/tXx6UNNwYXf
Please note that tickets are required to attend the commencement exercises in Martin Field House. All graduates must register for these tickets by the deadline of April 29. The ticket packets will be available for traditional students and faculty/staff to pick up at the Kennedy Center Welcome Desk starting May 9 until May 13 during scheduled hours. Professional & Graduate Studies students' tickets will be available for pick up through the Office of Professional & Graduate Studies during normal office hours starting on May 6. The graduating students and faculty that are in the procession do NOT need a ticket for Commencement in Martin Field House. Please refer to Registration and Tickets for details.
Phi Beta Kappa
Phi Beta Kappa membership has long been recognized as the highest distinction an individual can receive for scholarly excellence in undergraduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences. Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest undergraduate honors society. The official induction ceremony into Phi Beta Kappa takes place during the week of commencement.
The Department of Nursing will host a ceremonial pinning for the B.S.N. Class of 2016 on Saturday, May 14 at 8:30 a.m. at the Hayden Auditorium, Bates Hall. All guests are welcome.
The religious service for the graduating class and their guests will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at Hiram Christian Church, 6868 Wakefield Road, Hiram, Ohio. This year's key note speaker will be Dr. Irvin W. Green, Pastor of Hiram Christian Church. Dr. Green received his M. Div. at Christian Theological Seminary and his D. Min. at Chicago Theological Seminary. He has been in ministry for more than 26 years, and has served eight congregations and several seminaries. Most recently, he has been an interim pastor at First Christian Church (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio). All guests are welcome to attend Baccalaureate.
The brunch reception will be held between 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the Hiram College Dining Hall. Students and their guests are invited to attend and visit with faculty, staff and friends prior to the Commencement ceremony. Tickets are required. Family Activities & Book Store Open House
Come join the fun activities before and after you attend the brunch. Stop by the Book store for Hiram College items that students will enjoy and have to reminisce about their days spent 'on the hill'. More information coming about the activities.
All graduating students need to be at the Bates Hall steps by 12:30 p.m. to be a part of the class pictures.
Student Line up
All graduating students MUST be at Fleming Field House no later than 1:15 p.m. for line up, or risk not marching.
The Saturday, May 14 2:00 p.m. location for the Commencement exercises is in Martin Field House at the Coleman Sports Center. A live simulcast of the ceremony will also be shown in Price Gym. The Commencement address speaker is award winning journalist and former CNN anchor Jan Hopkins. Tickets are required for the Commencement ceremony in Martin Field House and must be registered for in advance by April 29, 2016 through the Registration and Ticket process.
