For Family and Friends

The commencement ceremonies for the class of 2014 are scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 17, 2014.  We look forward to having you join us in recognizing the students' academic accomplishments.

Hiram College's commencement is a formal ceremony celebrating the past years' accomplishments and looking forward to new ventures.  It is during this ceremony that the undergraduates and graduates will each receive a diploma folder and have their degrees officially conferred. A punch and cookies reception is held immediately following the ceremony to honor the new graduates with faculty, family and friends.  For May graduates, the official diploma will be mailed to the graduate's mailing address as listed with the registrar's office upon final grade and degree processing within four to six weeks after commencement.

The formal commencement ceremony at Charles A. Henry Field is NOT a ticketed event since it is held outside rain or shine. Since the ceremony will be outside, please come prepared with rain coats and proper head apparel just in case.  Please be aware that umbrellas will not be permitted due to safety concerns and to prevent obstructing anyone's view. In case of severe weather or an emergency situation, please reference the weather/emergency contingency plan found in this website.

If you have special needs that require special accommodations however, you can register or contact the Special Events office for assistance.  Please note that if you would like to attend the commencement day brunch, tickets are required for that. Information on how to register and purchase commencement day brunch tickets or register for special assistance can be found on the Registration and Tickets page.

Many other celebratory events lead up to the Commencement ceremony including:

  • Celebration of Excellence programs that recognize and award achievements during the weeks before commencement,
  • Professional Studies Undergraduate Senior Dinner,
  • Traditional Senior Celebration Activities taking place in the days between the end of the academic year and the commencement exercises,
  • Nurses' Pinning Ceremony, Baccalaureate, and a Commencement Brunch Reception all occurring the Saturday morning of commencement day.  Please refer to the Commencement Day Schedule for a complete up-to-date list of the commencement day events and activities.

Complete schedules of these celebrations can be found through the embedded links above or directly from the website pages shown in the left hand column.  Schedules are up-dated as details are finalized.
