Bread and Soup Nights

Since 1983 Hiram College has hosted an annual Bread and Soup meal each winter where students, faculty and community members can purchase a simple bread and soup meal on Thursday evenings in the Kennedy Center, eat in solidarity with those who have fewer food options than most of us, and benefit those in need in our community.

2016 Dates – Every Thursday January 14th – February 18th - 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Kennedy Center, Dix

Bread and Soup is an opportunity for students to help feed the hungry in our communities. One in six children go hungry in Portage County alone, and you can make the difference. By eating a simple meal together with your fellow students, faculty, staff, and community members, you can make a direct impact on those who go hungry in and around our state. For every meal purchased, one dollar goes towards the Pack Shack - Feed the Funnel program, an initiative where one dollar provides a meal to four families(http://www.thepackshack.org/home.html). Students simply use a meal swipe and faculty, staff and community members pay six dollars to partake in bread, soup, assorted fruits and beverages. Children above ten pay full price however children 3-9 years of age pay three dollars and children under two are free! Come together to partake in a meal for a common cause - to feed those in need.

Bread and Soup has been a part of Hiram’s Campus since 1983 and 33 years later we want you to be a part of the tradition. Our goal to feed the hungry is bigger than ever. We hope to raise $2000 for the Pack Shack -Feed the Funnel program; which would provide 8,000 meals for our local community centers, churches, schools, food banks, and more. Our first Bread and Soup meal will occur during Welcome Back Week on January 14th, 2016 and will run for 6 weeks until February 18th 2016. At each meal, attendees have the opportunity for to win donated prizes by purchasing raffle tickets for one dollar each, all proceeds also go to the Pack Shack - Feed the Funnel program.
