Alternative Spring Break Trips

Spring break is an ideal time for students to engage in extended community service. Hiram College facilitates and organizes trips each March so students can spend a week volunteering in community with one another.

Students may participate in Hiram’s annual Habitat for Humanity trip, join the Office of Civic Engagement which annually sponsors a trip working with social service agencies, or join or plan a student-led trip to a designation of their choosing. Some past locations have included Washington D.C., Massachusetts, New Orleans, Milwaukee, and North Carolina.

Hiram College students have been volunteering with Habitat For Humanity since 1970, spending a week working with other colleges and volunteers. Students and faculty often get to meet the families who will live in the home they are building.

In recent years, Hiram College’s Habitat for Humanity chapter has established a partnership at a site in High Point, N.C. Students work on Habitat homes and in a Habitat Re-Store facility. For more information on how to join or lead a trip, please contact the Office of Civic Engagement.
