Resumes/Cover Letters
Even though you have been working for many years, you may not have needed an updated professional resume and cover letter. It is critical that your employment documents demonstrate your past experience but also stress your education and the transferable skills you hope to use in a new or improved career. Also resumes no longer include personal information so you should be sure to know the basic rules for a contemporary and professional resume.
The Career Center has a special publication, Managing Your Career, with examples of resumes for adults with extensive previous work experience. It is available in the literature rack outside the Career Center.
If your work experience is less extensive, you may find it helpful to use the Hiram College Resume Guide. Also see the Resume and Cover Letter section of our website for more examples.
When you have completed a draft of your resume, you may benefit from feedback. Stop by the Career Center on Weekend College Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for suggestions, post it in your account in Hiram CareerNet, our online employment database where I can then review it or email the resume to me for feedback - craigkm@hiram.edu.
