Preparing for Internships

  • Employers expect internship candidates to have a professional resume, stressing the skills and education you have to offer, and a cover letter/email describing your background and explaining why you are interested in this internship.  Attend a resume workshop and/or bring your resume and cover letter draft to the Career Center for review.  Regular open hours are held to review resumes, or you are welcome to make an appointment at a convenient time. Remember to print your resume on resume paper if you will be networking or meeting an employer in person.  Some positions require writing samples as well.
  • Learn to interview and express your qualifications well.  Use the Interview Resources on our website or stop by the Career Center to pick up more preparation suggestions.  Practice interviews are held in the Career Center every semester.
  • Dress appropriately for your career field.  See Professional Dress for examples of traditional business dress.  Talk with the Career Center staff if you're not sure what will be expected.
