Health Career Options

Health professions offer a many interesting and challenging options ranging from direct patient care and diagnosis, medical research and health journalism hrough the administration of health organizations to the development and sales of medical/ health devices and products.   Choosing the right career field or the right series of careers for you is also challenging but exciting.

Although you may have an idea about the careers that interest you, during your years at Hiram College, you will deepen and expand your understanding of your options as well as your knowledge of your own interests, abilities, values and goals. Here are suggestions for ways to make that happen:

Research career options. Start with the resouces here but use your own research skills as well.

Get involved in campus events and activities.  Attend speakers on every topic that could expand your worldview, even those that are not health-related.  You never know when you will learn something that will affect your life.

Participate in health-related events including speakers, special seminars, classes or field trips on health public policy, international health, medical research and careers in these fields.

Shadow health professionals in a wide variety of careers.  In addition to your personal contacts, talk to faculty, upperclass students and the Career Center for alumni contacts.

Get experience - volunteer, get as many internships as possible both in research and clinical areas, look for summer jobs in health camps, nursing homes or hospitals.
