Stages: Cancer and the Arts Event 4

When:
November 29, 2007 - 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

TOM BATIUK, author of the syndicated comic strip Funky Winkerbean will join us in a public convocation (November/December 2007 TBA) to discuss “Lisa’s Story”, which began in 1999 as a six-month story line that depicted one characters struggle with breast cancer. This was uncharted territory in comics, and the theme has now resurfaced in his strip. Tom will publish Lisa’s Story as the 10th volume in the Center for Literature and Medicine’s book series from Kent State University Press. Tom is a hometown hero, born in Akron in 1947, and a graduate of Kent State University. He taught junior high school prior to beginning his world-renowned work as a cartoonist.
