Fall 2008:
Neuroscience (BIOL/PSYC 327)
Neuroscience is the study of the relationships between mind, brain and behavior. It is a multidisciplinary field that combines biological, chemical and psychological perspectives to better understand neuron structure and function, thought, emotion, and behavior. Neuroscience integrates the methods and research approaches of a wide variety of scientific disciplines, ranging from the cellular and molecular neurosciences to the psychology of cognition and perception. Because of this multidisciplinary nature, Neuroscience is an exciting but also a challenging science. This course will focus on (1) functional neuroanatomy, (2) information processing by individual neurons (2) neuronal foundations of psychopathology and psychotropic drug actions, (3) sensory systems, (4) motor control, and (5) neuronal control of sleeping and dreaming.
