Research Interests
I am involved in active research within my courses and throughout the summer with undergraduate and high school students. I am interested in the soil microbe Agrobacterium tumefaciens as well as other closely related microbes. I work on the functional genomics of these microbes (figuring out what specific genes do) as well as gene mutagenesis and gene mapping (figuring out where the genes lie in the genome). The laboratory courses that I teach involve novel research projects in these areas. I am also involved in outreach to local area high schools and work to bring these projects to the high school biology curriculum through my work with the Hiram Genomics Initiative.
