The Big Read

The Big Read: September 17-October 28, 2015

Welcome to Hiram College's 2015 Big Read program! We invite you to join us in reading and discussing Luis Alberto Urrea's novel "Into the Beautiful North" at more than 20 events on the Hiram College campus and at Portage County libraries throughout September and October. Check out our list of events that includes authors, speakers on immigration, books discussions, a dance troupe, Mexican food, craft activities, and more.

We’ll be handing out copies of the book at many of our events, so make sure to pick up your copy and start reading. If you’d like to be kept up to date on upcoming activities please send an email to lindsaycrane@hiram.edu to be added to our mailing list. Or send us an email and tell us what part of the book you like best. We’ll share some of the answers on this page during the Big Read!

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. Hiram College’s Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature is one of 75 not-for-profit organizations to receive a grant to host a Big Read project between September 2015 and June 2016. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with Arts Midwest.
