Scott Carter begins his inaugural season as head coach of the Terrier volleyball team. He spent the previous two seasons with the program as assistant/associate head coach.

In the past two seasons at Hiram, Carter served as the Defensive Coordinator and helped coach the Terriers to become the 16th nationally ranked blocking team in the country in 2011.  During that time, he also helped coach eight All-Conference players, including the 2010 NCAC Player of the Year. 

Carter came to Hiram after two-years as the head volleyball coach at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. While there, Carter led the volleyball program to two district championships, a regional championship and an appearance in the state final four. He received back-to-back coach of the year awards while producing seven All- Conference and six All-District players.

Carter also has had over 17 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level as a head coach and recruiting coordinator. Carter’s resume includes stops at Broome Community (N.Y.) College, SUNY Oneonta, Sacred Heart (Conn.) University, Kent
State University and the University of Kentucky. As a recruiting coordinator at the collegiate level, he has produced three recruiting classes that ranked among the 50 nationally which helped lead programs at the University of Kentucky and Kent State University more than double those program’s win totals within a three-year period.  Also during hhis time at Kent State and Kentucky, Carter recruited and coached nine All-Freshman Team players and six All-Conference Team selections.  He has been widely known as one of the nation's top talent scouts for the sport of volleyball, working closely with over 160 Division I programs.

In addition, Carter has worked as an intern assistant with the USA Olympic Team and World Games Team in 1999. Has also has seven years experience coaching collegiate men’s volleyball and helped lead the Sacred Heart University men’s volleyball team to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001 as the team finished with a 25-6 overall record. He posted seven consecutive 20 win seasons as head coach and his winning percentage ranks among the top-10 all-time in men’s college volleyball.

Carter has an associate's degree in sociology and a bachelor's degree in psychology.  He is currently pursuing a master's degree in sports psychology/exercise physiology and motor learning.

Carter currently resides in Streetsboro, Ohio with his wife, Melissa and two children, Grady and Aislin.

 

Assistant Coach Michael Passarelli

Michael Passarelli will be in his first season as an assistant volleyball coach at Hiram in 2011. 

Passarelli is a 2008 graduate of Kent State University and earned a degree in exercise science.  As a student at KSU, he played, coached and helped organize the KSU men's club team and was a two-time first-team Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) award winner.  In addition, Passarelli was also named Offensive Player of the Year in 2008.

Passarelli brings a vast coaching experience at many levels to Hiram ranging from being a student assistant at KSU to assistant head coach at the high school and several coaching stints with various club teams including his most recent position as head coach of the AVC 15 National Club Team. 

Passarelli was also an accomplished volleyball player in high school at Archbishop Hoban in Akron.  During his playing career, he was a two-time All-State award winner (2002-03) and was the North East Ohio Region Player of the Year (2003).

Passarelli currently resides in Tallmadge.
