Andrea Preston will be in her first season as head coach of the women's basketball team at Hiram College in 2007-08.
Preston comes to Hiram from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where she was the head women's basketball coach for the past two seasons. At Clarkson, Preston coached two honorable mention All-Liberty League players, nine players who were named Academic All-Liberty League, one first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and nine athletes who earned Liberty League weekly honors.
"Hiram College would like to welcome Andrea to the community, athletic staff and women's basketball program," Hiram College Athletic Director Tom Mulligan said. "Andrea will be a wonderful addition to the College and brings a wealth of experience that will help improve and advance the women's basketball program to the next level of competition."
In addition to coaching at Clarkson, Preston has been a graduate assistant at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (2002-04) and an assistant at Earlham (Ind.) College (2001-02). In 2004, she served in an administration position with the Minnesota Lynx of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Preston is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA). In addition, she is a graduate of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy and Dimension 2.
"I would like to thank Tom Mulligan and Hiram College for the opportunity to try to lead the women's basketball program to new heights," said Preston. "I am excited to be a part of a campus community that strives to develop excellence in its students in all areas. I look forward to joining the athletic department staff and collaborating our efforts to bring recognition to the College, both academically and athletically. Preston is a 2001 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. She was a member of the women's basketball team, earning two varsity letters, and was a four-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Preston earned a master's degree in exercise and sport science with an emphasis in sport administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2004.

Allison Kern joins the women’s basketball staff in 2007-2008 as the Terriers’ top assistant. Kern earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and added a minor in Sociology from John Carroll University in August 2007.
As a student-athlete at John Carroll, Kern was a four-year member of the women’s basketball program. As a junior she earned the Heart and Courage award and was the JCU Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. Along with her team accolades, she also earned honorable mention All-OAC for her efforts her senior year. Kern was also a three-year letter winner in Track and Field.
Kern’s achievements were not limited to the hardwood as she was elected by her peers to serve a two-year term as a Class Senator. As a Senator, she was responsible for the first student organized Voter Registration Drive and also took a leadership role as the Chair for the University Food Service Student Advocacy Committee. Kern was recognized with the JCU Internal Organization of the Year Award Winner as the Chairman of the Dining Committee.
Kern is a native of Dayton, Ohio where she attended Chaminade-Juliene High School. While a player for Chaminade-Juliene, her high school team was ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation as a junior and won the Ohio State Championship as a senior.
