Hiram College Women's Soccer Extends Winning Streak to Five Games With 5-2 Victory Against Geneva (Pa.) College
HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's soccer team extended its current winning streak to five games with a 5-2 victory against non-conference opponent Geneva (Pa.) College today (Monday, Sept. 17) at the Hiram Soccer Complex in Hiram. [Box Score]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 5-1 overall while the Golden Tornadoes fall to 2-5 for the season.
In addition to the team continuing its streak of consecutive wins, freshmen Claire Conner (Aurora) and Courtney Cosley (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) continued their individual streaks. Conner continued her consecutive goal scoring streak with her team and North Coast Athletic Conference leading eighth goal of the season this afternoon and has scored at least one goal in every game played this season. Cosley improved her consecutive point scoring streak to five games with a pair of goals today.
Cosley scored her first goal of the game at the 15:55 minute mark with an assist from Conner to give Hiram an early 1-0 lead. Geneva later tied the game at 1-1 during the 25th minute thanks to an unassisted goal by Jenna Witkowski. The Terriers regained the lead with Cosley's second goal of the game during the 34th minute with an assist from freshman forward Sasha Davidson (East Hampton, Conn./East Hampton) making the score 2-1. But the Golden Tornadoes tied the game again less than a minute later with an unassisted goal by Nicole Beadling at the 34:31 minute mark. Both teams remained tied at 2-2 heading into halftime.
Conner broke the stalemate with an unassisted goal at the 72:13 minute mark to begin a three-goal scoring surge by the Terriers. Sophomore midfielder/forward Ashley Ellsworth (Strongsville) put Hiram up by two goals, 4-2, on a free kick that found the back of the net during the 75th minute. Freshman midfielder Mekko Fojas (Twinsburg) added an insurance goal at the 88:09 minute mark off of a corner kick by junior midfielder/defenseman Katie Kraft (Green) that found its way through the defense allowing Fojas to find the back corner of the goal as the Terriers went on to the 5-2 victory.
For the game, Hiram outshot Geneva, 28-13.
Freshman goalkeeper Emily Bristol (Worcester, N.Y./Worcester Central) picked up her fifth win of the season and is now 5-1 overall. She played all 90 minutes allowing two goals and making seven saves.
Hiram will go for its sixth straight victory on Wednesday, Sept. 19 against Baldwin-Wallace College at the George Finnie Stadium in Berea. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
