2009 Winter Training in Hawaii
The Hiram College Men's and Women's Swim Team travelled to the Big Island of Hawaii for its annual winter training trip. The swimmers had twelve days of grueling workouts along with a lot of sight seeing and fun! Below are some pictures from the trip.

Above: The swim team hiked 2000 ft down to the Pololu Valley Black Sand Beach. The waves were great on this north facing beach and the sand was awesome.

Above: On the way up to the top of Mauna Loa - the countryside behind the swimmers is typical of the island = uninhabited and unspoiled.

Above/Below: The swim team drove up to near the top of Mauna Loa and posed in the many feet of snow! A great snow ball fight followed this photo.

Above: The swimmers pose in front of where the active volcano is dumping hot molten lava into the ocean. Notice the steam rising out of the water at the right of the picture. This is at the southern end of the big island.r
