Bob Wolfe brings 35 years of experience to the position of head football coach. He built and led successful football programs as head coach at Tiffin University, Elyria Catholic High School, Warren Harding High School, Trinity High School, and Notre Dame Cathedral Latin School.

At Tiffin University, Wolfe’s teams twice qualified for the NAIA playoffs and were routinely ranked among the top 10 programs nationally. Wolfe was recognized as the NAIA District 22 Coach of the Year twice. He is a member of the Tiffin University Hall of Fame. He also was the head football coach at Allegheny College when the institution moved from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference to the North Coast Athletic Conference.

At the high school level, Wolfe led Trinity and Notre Dame Cathedral Latin to league championships. He also posted winning records at Warren Harding and Elyria Catholic. His collegiate coaching experience includes serving as the defensive coordinator at Bowling Green State University when the Falcons were perennial contenders for the Mid-American Conference Championship, at Austin Peay State University, and at Mesabi Range Community College in Virginia, Minn. Wolfe also has had successful stops at Youngstown State University and the University of Cincinnati. He joined the Hiram staff a year ago as defensive coordinator and was instrumental in bringing in the largest group of football recruits in the institution’s history.

“Bob is a proven winner,” said Hiram College Athletic Director Tom Mulligan. “He has built successful programs at both the high school and collegiate levels. His 35-plus years of experience, much of it in Northeast Ohio, gives him a tremendous advantage in recruiting. We’re confident he can take our program to a higher level.”

A native of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Wolfe comes from a family heavily associated with the game of football. His father, Fenton, was the longtime head football coach at Bellevue High School and Upper Sandusky High School.

Wolfe earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green and completed his master’s degree in athletic administration at Ball State University. He and his wife, Karen, reside in Chagrin Falls and have two grown children.

Assistant Coach J.P. Emond

J.P. Emond joined the Hiram College football staff in February of 2007 and will assume the defensive coordinator responsibilities in addition to being the strength and conditioning coordinator and the video editing coordinator.  Prior to coming to Hiram, Emond spent the past two years in the Richmond Heights School District as an educational aide and special-teams coordinator and head junior varsity football coach at Richmond Heights High School.  He also spent time at Cuyahoga Community College where he helped high school students develop skills in preparation for attending college and worked with high school teachers in technology training.  Emond has been an active member in education as a substitute teacher at Fairport Harding High School and the Kirtland Local School District.  In addition to teaching students in the classroom, Emond has also served as a teacher on the football field.  Prior to his position at Richmond Heights, he served as an assistant varsity football coach at Mayfield High School during the 2003 season.  Emond's coaching resume also includes stops at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin as a defensive coordinator (1998-2003) and a junior varsity head coach at St. Edward High School (1993-98).

Emond earned a business administration degree in economics from Cleveland State in the winter of 1995.  He later went to earn a post baccalaureate degree in history and education while attending Lake Erie College in 2004.  In addition, Emond completed his Ohio Teaching Liscense in 2005 from Notre Dame College.  He also became certified in the B.F.S (Bigger-Faster-Stronger) strength and conditioning program in April of 2006.

As a player, Emond was a walk-on at Bowling Green State University where he was coached by current Hiram College head football coach Bob Wolfe.  In high school, he was a member of a team that finished as state champion runner-up.

Emond currently resides in Concord, Ohio with his wife, Patricia, and his three children, James, Nicole and Michael.   Emond's daughter Nicole, will be a freshman at Hiram in the Fall of 2007.

Assistant Coach Travis Everhart

Travis Everhart joined the Hiram College football staff in 2007 and will serve as the offensive and recruiting coordinators as well as the director of skills camps.

In his first season as offensive coordinator in the fall of 2007, Everhart coached a young freshman and sophomore laden squad that set or tied a host of team records including total pass attempts in a game (66), receptions in a game (13), completions per game (18.5) and passing first downs (81). Also, his offensive unit was one pass completion away from tying the school single-season pass reception record (185). Despite its youth, the Terrier offense also saw a significant reduction in total turnovers from a year ago, giving the ball over to the opponents a total of 13 times in 2007. The offensive line also allowed fewer quarterback sacks per game this past fall (2.3) than in previous seasons.

Everhart comes to Hiram College from Louisburg College in Louisburg, N.C. where he was the offensive coordinater, coached the quarterbacks and wide receivers and was in charge of heading up the recruiting efforts as the recruiting coordinator during the 2006 season. Everhart has had a vast amount of coaching experience including stops at South Dakota Tech (2005-06) and Tiffin University (2002-03) where he served as an offensive line coach and a run game coordinator. In addition, he was a tackle and tight ends coach at California Univeristy of Pennsylvania (2000-01), was a running backs coach and assistant recruiting coordinator at Capital University (1999) and was the head football coach at Unioto High School (2004-05).

Everhart, a native of Frankfort, Ohio, is a 1995 graduate of Adena High School and a 1999 Capital University graduate with a degree in Elementary Education. He also graduated for California University of Pennsylvania with a masters in Geography and regional planning. While at Capital, Everhart started four seasons and earned four letters at nose tackle and long snapper. He received the "Crusader Award" which is given to the player who best represents the characteristics of a champion on and off the field.

Assistant Coach Anthony Bovaro

Anthony Bavaro will begin his first season as an assistant coach in 2007 and will be responsible for coaching the linebackers.   Bavaro brings a variety of coaching experience including tenures at Padua Franciscan High School in 2005, more recently at Rhodes High School in 2006 and three consecutive seasons with the National Women's Football Association Cleveland Fusion (2005-2007).  

While at Padua High School, Bavaro served as an assistant defensive backs and wide receivers coach.  At Rhodes, he was the co-defensive coordinator for the varsity team and defensive coordinator for the junior varsity squad.  In three seasons with the Cleveland Fusion, Bavaro was primarily a defensive coach, but gained valuable experience on offense as well.  He was also a member of the coaching staff that saw the Fusion win a division championship in 2006.

 

Assistant Coach Ryan David

Ryan David joins the football program as a part-time coach and will help out with the defensive backs. David is a 1995 graduate of Thiel (Pa.) College with a Bachelor's degree in business administration. Prior to coming to Hiram, David was a defensive backfield coach at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School in Chardon, Ohio. He was also the co-head coach of the NDCL junior varsity football team.

As a student at Thiel, David was an accomplished football player. He was a two-time All-Presidents' Athletic Conference, two-time Division III All-American selection as a free safety and was selected to play in the 2006 National Coaches All-Star game. Following his collegiate career, David received offers to workout for numerous professional football teams including the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals and the Oakland Raiders. He was rated as the 18th best safety entering the 1996 NFL draft by the Dave T. Thomas Draft Publications.

David currently resides in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Assistant Coach Michael Glodowski

Michael J. Glodowski begins his second season as member of the Terrier coaching staff and his twenty-ninth year overall as a football coach.  He will coach the defensive secondary, moving from being the wide receivers coach in 2006.  Glodowski will also serve as the Head Junior Varsity Coach.

Glodowski earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and education from Westminster (Pa.) College (1979 graduate) and then went on to attend graduate school at Kent State University and Walsh University. 

In addition to coaching football at Hiram College, Glodowski is also a teacher to at-risk students in Mayfield City School District, where he has been a staff member since 2001.  Before that, Glodowski taught mathematics and coached within the Rocky River, Nordonia Hills, and Richmond Heights school districts.  He is also a college mathematics instructor at Cuyahoga Community College, Eastern campus, since the spring of 2004.  

Glodowski has spent time as a coach in football, basketball, softball, track, and as a weight lifting trainer.  Most recently as an assistant football coach at Mayfield High School, he served as the Special Teams Coordinator and defensive line coach (2000-03).  The last six years, he as been an assistant girls track coach in the shot put and discus.  Glodowski has coached football at Kirtland High School and Willoughby South High School, as well.

Coach Glodowski is a two-time Lake County News-Herald "Coach-of-the-Year" (1997 and 1998) award winner as the Head Football Coach at Richmond Heights High School.  Also during his tenure at Richmond Heights, he was a CBS Channel 19 Cleveland Browns Football "Coach-of-the-Week" recipient.  Glodowski has the most wins as the Head Football Coach and longest tenured football coach in Richmond Heights High School school history.

As a member of the Westminster College football team, Glodowski played center for the Titans and helped the team win two National Championships in 1976 and 1977  (N.A.I.A. Division II).

Glodowski currently lives in Eastlake with his wife Patty and daughter Cheryl.  There son, Timothy, will be a sophomore at Hiram College in the fall of 2007 and is a valuable member of the football team as an offensive lineman.

Assistant Coach James Lawrence

James Lawrence will begin his first season as a member of the Hiram coaching staff in 2007 as the running backs coach. He is a 1971 graduate of the University of Boston with a degree in physical education. Lawrence brings a vast coaching experience including being the running backs and linebacker caoch for the past 10 seasons at Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio.

His coaching resume also includes stops at Firestone High School (1995), North High School (1990-94), Ellet High School (1987-89), Tiffin University (1985-86), Central Hower High School (1983-85) and Dunbar High School in Chicago, Ill. (1975-78). During his coaching career, Lawrence has coached eight "All-State" running backs, all of whom rushed for over 1,000 yards each season. He also participated in three city title games and won two as a high school coach.

As a player, Lawrence was a member of the National Football League Washington Redskins (1970-72) and the Denver Broncos (1972-74).

Lawrence currently resides in Akron, Ohio.

Assistant Coach Frank Mazzocca

Frank Mazzocca enters his sixth season as an assistant coach for the Terriers. Mazzocca will serve as co-defensive coordinator and coach the linebackers.

Mazzocca has made coaching stops at Brookfield, Girard, Campbell Memorial, and Youngstown Ursuline High schools in Northeast Ohio as well as Mohawk High School in Western Pennsylvania. Mazzocca also spent two seasons as a player for the Youngstown Hardhats semi-professional team.

He and his wife, Jackie, reside in Poland, Ohio, with their daughter, Daniella.

Assistant Coach Larry Rice

Larry Rice returns for his 27th season as an assistant coach working with the defensive line at Hiram. In addition, Rice also serves as the team's strength and conditioning coach and is also an Assistant Director of Fitness Center/Weight Room Operations.

A veteran of Northeast Ohio football, Rice previously coached at nearby Garrettsville Garfield, Fairport Harbor, and Chardon High Schools. A 1966 graduate of Heidelberg College, Rice played football for the Student Princes under former Hiram mentor and Hall of Fame coach Joe Malmisur.

Rice and his wife, Carolyn, live in Chardon. They have three grown children.

Assistant Coach Matt Schmittel

Matt Schmittel will be in his first season as an assistant coach in 2007 and will work with the quarterbacks. He is a 1996 graduate of Miami (Ohio) University with a degree in secondary education. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Arts in Teaching from Miami in 2001. Schmittel has spent the past three seasons at Streetsboro High School where he has served as the offensive coordinator and coached the running backs and defensive backs. He played a vital role in turning around a program that averaged 100 yards per game to over 300 ypg. He was also selected to be the offensive coordinator for a national all-star bowl hosted by Kent State University during the summer of 2006.

Prior to his stay at Streetsboro High School, Schmittel also made stops at powerhouse St. Edward High School (2000-03) as a running backs coach. During his three seasons at St. Edward's, the football team went 32-7 and was the State Division I runners-up in 2003. Schmittel's coaching resume also includes stops at Reading High School in Cincinnati (1997-2000) and got his start in coaching while attending Miami University as a student assistant (1994-96).

Schmittel currently resides in Aurora, Ohio with his wife, Bethany, and their daughter Hadleigh.

Assistant Coach Mike Soltis

An 11-year veteran on the Hiram coaching staff, Mike Soltis will once again lend his expertise coaching kickers to the Terriers.

A 1977 graduate of the College, Soltis holds the school, single-game record for made PAT's with seven.

Soltis, his wife, Jane, and daughter, Margaret, reside in Parkman, Ohio.
