2007 Hall of Fame Inductees


Steve Fleming '94

Steve Fleming was a two-sport athlete (basketball and golf), excelling as a member of the Terrier basketball team. In four seasons, he received several post-season awards, including honorable mention All-Great Lakes Region and a second-team Great Lakes All-District as a senior in 1994. Steve was twice chosen first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and was a two-time first-team Academic All-OAC pick (1993 and 1994). Also as a senior, he was named Hiram’s “Top Male Athlete” and was an OAC Clyde A. Lamb Scholar-Athlete Award nominee. A four-year letter winner, Steve ended his career seventh on the Hiram all-time scoring list with 1,395 points. He holds Hiram single-season and career records for assists and free throw percentage. Steve recorded 177 assists in 1992-93 and 510 over his career. He made an impressive 89 percent of his free throws as a junior and 84.9 percent over his career. Steve also earned three varsity letters in golf and was a member of the1991 OAC championship team.

After graduation, Steve continued his involvement with basketball and returned to his alma mater in 2006 as head coach of the men’s basketball team. In his first season, Steve led his team to its first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament appearance since 2002-03.




Stacey Maleckar '89

Stacey Maleckar competed in both field hockey and women’s basketball. In field hockey, she won four letters and twice was named first-team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Her outstanding playing helped Hiram to win the 1987 and 1988 PAC championships. In addition, Stacey served as team captain during her senior season. In basketball, Stacey also won three letters and was selected to the Hiram College Holiday Classic All-Tournament team as a junior.

Since 1999, Stacey has served as the Adult Activities Services Manager of the Cuyahoga County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities’ Euclid Adult Activity Center. Prior to her current position, Stacey was the head softball coach at Hiram from 1995-99 and served as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Stacey also coached stops at Lakeland Community College and Walterboro High School in Walterboro, South Carolina.

 



Kevin Maness '93

Kevin Maness proved himself an accomplished swimmer during his four years at Hiram. He was a seven-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion, including four times in the 400 individual medley, twice in the 200 backstroke (1991-92) and once in the 200 IM (1991). He won thirteen All-OAC awards, the 1991 OAC “Swimmer of the Year,” and was a Clyde A. Lamb Scholar-Athlete nominee as a senior. In addition, Kevin was a four-time team “Most Valuable Player” and two-time team captain (1991-92). His school records in the 200 and 400 IM and the 100 and 200 backstroke stood for nearly 10 years. He also was a member of the 200 freestyle relay that set the school record that stood until 2004.

Kevin recently began his 15th year as a teacher in the Cincinnati area. He spent eight years (1994-2001) teaching seventh and eighth grades at St. Louis Elementary and is currently teaching first grade at Terrace Park Elementary. He also is in his 14th season as head swimming and diving coach at his alma mater, Mariemont High School. Kevin has been named Boys or Girls League Coach of the Year15 times and Southwest District Division II Girls Coach of the Year three times.





David Martin '80


David “Dave” Martin won four letters in baseball and three in football. As a football player, Dave earned honorable mention All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference honors as a junior. In baseball, he was twice named first-team All-PAC as a pitcher and was a member of the 1979 PAC championship team. He holds the school record for winning percentage at .850 (17-3) and is fourth on the all-time wins list. Dave is also tied for third for most victories in a single season with seven in 1979.

Dave earned a master’s in engineering from Purdue University in 1982. He worked as a manufacturing simulation consultant for Pritsker Corporation and Symix Corporation from 1982-97. Since 1997, Dave has served as manager of Software Development for Frontstep Inc. and Infor Global Solutions.






Peter Brann


Peter “Pete” Brann spent 35 years in the Hiram College community and athletic department as an administrator and a head coach of several sports. He coached wrestling for 17 seasons (1970-87), men’s soccer for 15 seasons (1970-85), women’s soccer for one season (1996), men’s tennis for 35 seasons (1970-2005) and women’s tennis for 20 seasons (1985-2005). In wrestling, Pete coached more than 100 NCAA national qualifiers, 15 All-Americans, and one Olympic qualifier who won a bronze medalist at the Pan American Games. Pete also had great success as a men’s and women’s tennis coach. In 35 seasons he coached numerous individual conference champions and led his teams to three championships in the Ohio Athletic Conference – the men winning the OAC in 1993 and the women in 1990 and 1993. Pete served on the executive boards of the NCAA Wrestling Coaches Association and the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association. In addition, he served as chairman of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and OAC coaches associations on numerous occasions.

Since his retirement from coaching in 2005, Pete has pursued his interest in real estate investment. He currently manages a vacation and residential property in New York. Pete is also a member of the MacMurray (Illinois) College Athletic Hall of Fame.
