2005 Hall of Fame Inductees
Michael Kernan ’88
During his Hiram years, Michael Kernan was an instrumental member of the only football team in Hiram College history to make the conference playoffs. Among his many distinctions as a member of Terrier football, Michael was twice voted the most valuable player of the defensive squad, was a Pizza Hut All-American, and was an All-PAC selection each year he played. His athleticism also made him an important contributor to the Hiram rugby and intramural basketball teams. Today, Michael Kernan is the president and CEO of Kernan Insurance & Financial Services, Inc. He is currently the head coach of Ursuline High School’s district championship softball team and is an active volunteer in his community. He has an active insurance business and presently has eight agencies across Ohio. Michael and his family reside in Boardman, OH. He has one daughter, Chelsea.
John Lampe ’93
As a Hiram College student-athlete, John Lampe was a member of the men’s varsity basketball and intercollegiate golf teams. John is no stranger to athletic hall of fame induction ceremonies. His high school alma mater, Waterloo in Atwater, OH, already counts him as a member of their athletic hall of fame. John remains active in organized athletics as a volunteer boys’ basketball coach and as a children’s softball coach. Since graduating from Hiram, he has worked in sales and has earned professional recognition for his outstanding efforts. He is presently employed as a senior sales executive for OnVantage Inc. John Lampe lives in Rootstown, OH, with his wife, Cheryl, and his daughter, Alyssa.
Frank L. Paden ’73
Frank L. Paden’s athletic successes as a Hiram College Terrier span four separate sports and three sports seasons: fall, winter, and spring. He was a member of Hiram’s varsity football, varsity baseball, and varsity wrestling programs. Frank also participated as a member of Hiram’s intramural softball team. When not engaged in athletic competition, he found time to be an active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. For the past 31 years, Frank has been with the Farmers National Bank of Canfield, where he currently holds the position of President and CEO. He is a board member of several non-profit organizations and is the director of the state’s trade organization. Frank Paden lives with his wife, Marsha, in Youngstown. They have three grown children: Bradley, Suzie, and Laura.
Greg Piscura ’79
While a student at Hiram, Greg Piscura was a talented contributor to the Terrier men’s varsity baseball team. He was Co-MVP of the 1978 PAC Championship team, was an All-PAC catcher, and finished in the top 10 in NCAA Division III in RBI per game. In addition to his skills on the playing field, Greg helped define the ethos of his fellow Hiram classmates as a disc jockey and talk show host on WHRM radio. In the twenty-six years since he graduated from Hiram College, he has been a visible member of various Northeast Ohio communities as a teacher and coach. He has taught in the Chagrin Falls and Bedford school districts. He presently holds a teaching position at Brady Middle School in the Orange school district. In addition to his classroom responsibilities, Greg has coached men’s football, basketball, and baseball. He also has volunteered as a coach for the Solon Recreation Department. Greg Piscura resides in Solon with his family.
Elizabeth Fajans Ritthaler ’78
During her years as a Hiram
College Terrier, Elizabeth Fajans Ritthaler earned her varsity letter
as member of the women’s field hockey team. Since graduating from
Hiram, she has been actively involved in education, first as an
elementary school teacher and in more recent years as a children’s
librarian. In 1995, Elizabeth was honored with a distinguished
achievement award in recognition of excellence in the field of
children’s literature. She also sits on several committees at her
school, including the committee on technology. Her commitment to
education extends beyond her classroom: Elizabeth has earned two
master’s degrees and teaches parent education classes. In her spare
time, she is actively involved with her church. She and her husband,
William, live in California.
Angie Horner Showalter ’94
Angie Horner Showalter earned her
varsity letters as a member of the Hiram women’s volleyball and
basketball programs. She further honed her athletic skills as a Terrier
by participating in intramural softball and flag football. In addition
to her involvement with athletics, Angie was a member of Phi Kappa Chi,
served as a Hiram peer tutor, and coached at the Hiram Summer
Basketball Camp. Since graduating from Hiram, she has taught second and
third grade at Katherine Thomas Elementary School in Windham, OH. She
has remained involved in athletics as a coach of women’s high school
volleyball and basketball teams. Angie Horner Showalter recently earned
her master’s degree from Kent State University. She lives in Ravenna,
OH, with her husband, Larry, and her two-year-old daughter, Morgan.
