Kristin Tassey joined the Hiram Athletic Department as head coach of the softball program in 2006-07 and will begin her second season in 2008.
In her first season as head coach, Tassey led her team to a 22-14 overall record improving the program from a 10-27-1 performance in the spring of 2006. Her team’s 22 wins were a school record and marked the program's first winning season since 1989. The Terriers also made their first-ever appearance in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Following the season, Tassey became the first softball coach at Hiram to earn the NCAC “Coach-of-the-Year” Award.
Tassey came to Hiram from Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts, where she served as assistant softball coach and admissions counselor. A 2003 graduate of Elms College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, Kristin earned her Master of Science at Smith (Mass.) College in 2005 in exercise and sport studies. She also has been assistant field hockey coach at Smith, and head softball coach at Longmeadow High School in Longmeadow, Mass.
As a collegiate softball player at Elms, Tassey led her team to two conference championships and an appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament. She is a two-time all-North Atlantic Conference catcher and twice was named to the conference all-tournament team.
Tassey was a four-year starting catcher that ended her career amongst the school's top-five all-time in games played, stolen bases and runs scored. She also had a lifetime batting average of .295 at the plate.
Assistant Coach Brittany Owen

Brittany Owen will be in her first season as an assistant coach with the Hiram softball program in the fall of 2008. In addition to helping the Terrier softball team, she is also an assistant women's soccer coach. Owen is a 2008 graduate of Limestone (S.C.) College with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As a student-athlete, she played four-years of soccer for the Lady Saints and was a four-year
starter. She also was a four-year mainstay on the
softball team.
In four years playing soccer, Owen scored 12 goals and was the recipient of the team’s “Most Improved Player Award,” “Defensive Player of the Year” and the “Strength and Conditioning Award.” She also served as a team captain as a senior.
In softball, she was the team “Most Valuable Player”and was selected to an All-Tournament Team.
