College Credit Plus
Students who are enrolled in high school and who are eligible can take a college-level course and earn high school and college credit at the same time. These credits will appear on both a student’s high school and college transcripts. College Credit Plus will replace the Post-Secondary Education Option (PSEO) beginning in the 2015 – 16 academic year.
There is no cost for a public student to participate in College Credit Plus at Hiram College. A student’s high school and the college or university share the cost for the College Credit Plus course. Private school students must contact their guidance office to determine what, if any, costs are associated with enrolling in this program.

Students can attend courses at Hiram College.
Hiram College offers flexible plans for Ohio high school students who wish to earn college credit. Through College Credit Plus, college-bound students will have the flexibility to enroll in single courses, a 15-credit hour plan per year, or and 30-credit hour plan per year at Hiram College. Our curricular breadth allows us to meet the individual needs and interests of students.
Qualified high school teachers may offer Hiram College courses at your high school.
Instructors who teach a College Credit Plus course in a high school must receive professional development and be employed as an adjunct professor at a college or university. All College Credit Plus courses, including the ones taught in a high school, must be the same as the course offered by the college or university. College Credit Plus classes must apply to a degree or professional certificate.

Requirements for High School Teachers Who Wish to Teach Hiram Courses at Their School
High school instructors of college-credit courses must meet the requirements for faculty teaching in institutions of higher education, as stipulated for accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents. College-credit instructors must comply with standards required by individual academic departments at Hiram College. There are two ways high school teachers can do this. 1) high school teachers will typically hold a master's degree or a Ph.D. in the discipline in which they are teaching, or 2) they will hold a master's degree in any discipline and have an at least 18 credit hours completed at the graduate level in the discipline in which they are teaching. The hiring decision for adjunct faculty will be based on the recommendation of the department chairperson, with the approval of either the Dean of the Weekend College or the Associate Dean. Exceptions will be approved by the Vice President and Dean of the College.
The following materials are needed for a request to certify a high school teacher to teach a Hiram College course:
- Completed application
- Updated resume
- Official graduate transcript
- Background check to be performed by Hiram College, or certification of such check by high school administration
- Recommendation by their district's administration

Course and Professional Development
Hiram College will provide an orientation for new college-credit instructors at either a campus-wide or individual academic department level, as determined by the Vice President and Dean of the College or department chair. New and continuing college-credit faculty will participate in professional development activities and evaluation processes commensurate with other Hiram College faculty, including classroom evaluation by the supervising department, and as directed by the Ohio Board of Regents.
In order to align curriculum taught in college-credit programs to the College, Hiram department chairs will designate appropriate full-time faculty to assure matched content and support student learning outcome assessment. Departments and mentoring faculty will be responsible for evaluating college-credit instructors according to the guidelines for adjunct faculty defined in the Hiram Faculty Handbook. Student course evaluations will be administered for college-credit according to normal College processes.
