At Hiram College, we strive to help military members and their families find the resources and financial aid they need to make school a reality.
For students who have served, or are currently serving, in the United States Armed Forces, or who are children or spouses of disabled or deceased veterans who passed away due to service related injuries, there may be VA educational benefits available.
Qualifying for VA Benefits
To find out if you are eligible for educational benefits, visit the VA's Educational Benefits website, or contact the VA Benefits Office at 1-800-827-1000.
We also have a VA certifying official on campus who can answer questions and help students determine and better understand the individual benefits they may qualify for.
Applications and Forms
The VA updated their website in March 2010 to include extensive information regarding each of the VA's educational benefits programs. Most required forms are available on their website as well, making the application process easier.
The VONAPP, Veterans Online Application, allows potential benefits recipients to apply for benefits at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To complete the VONAPP, click here.
Applying Your Benefits to Your Hiram College Education
After a student has completed the application process and received a Certificate of Eligibility from the VA, they will need to send a copy to the address below. Once the Certificate of Eligibility has been received, the student will be contacted regarding the next step.

Intent to Enroll and Schedule Changes
VA benefit recipient students must fill out a Veteran Student Intent to Enroll form for each term they intend to enroll and utilize benefits. The form must be completed, signed and returned to registrar’s office to complete the process.
Below are the forms for each academic session:
- Fall Semester Intent to Enroll Form
- Spring Semester Intent to Enroll Form
- Summer Semester Intent to Enroll Form
Important: Each veteran student is required to notify the Certifying Official via email as schedule changes are made (adding, dropping courses, etc). Each time credit hours change, the Certifying Official will adjust the educational benefits with the VA. Notification in a timely matter allows for smoother and faster processing.
If you’re a veteran who will be attending classes at Hiram College or if you have any questions about VA benefits, please stop by the Office of Professional and Graduate Studies in Hinsdale Hall, Room 205, or contact the VA Certifying Official directly, using the contact information listed below.
