Hiram College Summer Strings gives young strings players the opportunity to perform, rehearse and meet new friends in a focused, but relaxed atmosphere. Students will develop strings technique while playing in orchestra and chamber ensembles. Hiram faculty and area professionals will lead rehearsals and bring years of experience to young musicians. The program culminates with a recital for family and friends. Summer Strings is for rising seventh, eighth and ninth grade students who play violin, viola, cello or bass.
Hiram College will award a $1,000 Summer Academy Scholarship to every seventh through ninth grade student who attends the Hiram College Summer Strings program and enrolls as a full time student at Hiram College. Only one Summer Academy Scholarship will be awarded per new student. The scholarship is renewable up to four years. (For a total of $4,000 in scholarship award at $1,000 per year for four years.)
Age: For rising seventh through ninth grade students who already play violin, viola, cello, and bass.

Where is the Hiram College Summer Strings?
The Hiram College Summer Strings is a day camp held on the Hiram College campus, located in Hiram, Ohio. Classes are held in Frohring Music Hall, 11746 Dean St., Hiram, Ohio 44234. Hiram's campus is approximately 30 minutes from Solon, Hudson, Aurora, Twinsburg, Stow and Kent. It is a 45-minute drive from Cleveland and Akron.

Placement Session (Sunday, May 31, 2015):
A 15-minute appointment will be scheduled for each participant. Appointments will begin at noon and run throughout the afternoon.
After registering and being accepted into the Hiram College Summer Strings, students will be contacted by Tim Staron via email to schedule a placement session appointment.
Students should prepare a G,D,A,C and F major scale and a piece of their choice that best demonstrates their level of ability.
Recital: Sunday, July 12, 2015, 3-4 p.m.

The 2015 Hiram College Summer Strings is for rising seventh through ninth grade students who already play violin, viola, cello or bass.
Please submit one registration form and one payment per student.
The deadline for registration is no longer available.
The total cost for the Hiram College Summer Strings is $200. All activities associated with the workshop are covered in this price. The online registration form is linked to two online payment options. Payment arrangements include:

Online by Credit Card: Hiram College accepts American Express, Discover, and MasterCard. When paying by credit card, please note that a 2.5% convenience fee will be included in the total amount charged.
Online by Electronic Check: There is no convenience fee when paying by E-check.
Notification of Acceptance
Once students have registered and paid in full, their registration materials will be reviewed by the faculty member leading the workshop. As soon as a student has been approved, Tim Staron will send an email notifying the student of his or her acceptance into the program and information about scheduling a placement appointment on Sunday, May 31.
A week or so before the Hiram College Summer Strings, students will receive an email reminder about the link to download materials for the workshop. Some of the materials that will be available are the following:

- Please note: An information packet, including practice parts will be mailed to each student prior to the first day of class.
Full payment must accompany registration to be considered for acceptance. A full refund will be issued for those students not accepted into the workshop. Students who choose to withdraw at least three weeks prior to the first day of the workshop will receive a 50 percent refund. No refunds will be made after that date.

The first applicants to complete the registration process in its entirety and submit their full payment will be considered for acceptance. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Other Items to Note:
Reference: On the registration form, students are asked to provide the name, title, telephone number and email address of a teacher or guidance counselor who is willing to serve as a reference on their behalf. We assume that references are aware that students have used their names and that they may be contacted.
Participants are required to bring their own instruments. (Arrangements for two bass players may be possible.)
Students are required to attend all classes and commit to practicing their music.
