Hiram Writers Association
The Hiram Writers Association (HWA) is an organization of writers on the Hiram College campus. The HWA provides a forum for student writers to present their work outside of a classroom setting – despite the fact that we meet in a classroom. The HWA regularly conducts workshops where we take an in-depth look at one another’s pieces and offer comments for improvement and support. We occasionally work on writing exercises in our club meetings and also send out weekly writing prompts. The HWA keeps a very fluid structure in the meetings, allowing time for group leisure, constructive discussions, and deconstructive discussions. We present a literary movie series every two weeks and raise money to send the group to the national Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference.
Student Literary Magazine
Kept Mistakes is a student-run publication, established in the fall of 2013. Our mission is to share the artistic creations of the entire Hiram community (students, alumni, faculty, and staff) and to promote an appreciation of art and writing across campus. We believe strongly in the capability of every individual to produce art, regardless of major or profession, and we value art that is surprising, amusing, and thought-provoking. The magazine is printed biannually, in December and April. Selections from our submissions are posted periodically on our website. We accept submissions year-round. For our submission guidelines, visit http://hiramlitmag.tumblr.com/submission-guidelines. Any questions, comments, or concerns may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
