Internships and Summer Opportunities

The Interdisciplinary Computational Thinking and Plant Biology Research Program for Undergraduates
This summer program is a research opportunity for students interested in applying their computer science background to problems in plant biology. It is a 12-week paid summer research experience with many additional enrichment activities (click here for details). The program takes place at the beautiful University of Arizona campus in Tucson (www.arizona.edu). Additional stipends for travel, room and board are included. Students majoring in Computer Science, Mathematics, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Plant Sciences, or Plant-related Biology and who are US citizens or permanent residents of the US are eligible to apply.

REU program at Harvard Forest
This program consists primarily of ecology projects. One project is interdisciplinary, involving computer scientists doing work in sensor networks and data provenance to capture, manage and process the data they collect. This is a great opportunity for students interested in a mixture of ecology field work and computer science research.

FirstEnergy Corp.
Offers summer internships for Computer Science majors.

Albany Medical College Undergraduate Research Programs
This NIH-funded program offers many career opportunities at the interface of the quantitative and biomedical sciences, and is a great opportunity for students with little or no biology training to be exposed to research, prepare for graduate or professional school, and get some horizon-expanding career insights. Research offerings are specially designed for students majoring in math, physics, engineering, computer science or other “quantitative” sciences.

REU site at University of South Carolina
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Carolina in Columbia is again hosting an Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site in multidisciplinary computing supporting research in the areas of computer security/information assurance and software engineering/model-driven development.
